Churchill’s Pride

Fifty years on since the death of the great Sir Winston Churchill, one of the greatest Britons of all time, we felt it fitting to mark this anniversary with a poem in tribute:-
Winston Churchill

Churchill’s Pride

A privilege to hear him; proud to live by his words.

“Kites rise highest against the wind, not with it.”

Only success will do.

Think hard and in some way, you will notice;

You have probably been touched by this profound voice of reason.

A worldwide admiration, borne by reputation and history

This multi faceted man whose resolve never faltered.

An artist with a creative palette and imaginative mind.

A photographer who travelled to capture views of splendour.

A dedicated writer whose Nobel prize in literature stayed proudly with him.

“The price of greatness is responsibility.”

A formidable unmatchable leader. A character combining charm, stealth and strength.

An inspirational speaker whose words still resonate in our hearts today.

“We will never surrender.”

A maker of men, who, whilst fearful, rose to their feet in war.

We quote him in life for his wisdom and message,

“If you are going through hell…keep going.” Perseverance his constant.

And his strife for perfection? “My tastes are simple: I am easily satisfied with the best.”

A big hearted man with a generous soul: “We make a life by what we give.”

This skilled architect of the human endeavour, a British treasure.

Never in the history of political endurance has so much been owed by so many to one man.

Winston Churchill we salute you.

This poem will take pride of place in The Very Great Britain in Poetry…out soon.
